During my trip to La Ventana for some much needed kiting, the time spent walking from La Ventana to El Sargento (head north on the main road) allowed for an awesome exposure to the various restaurants that the area had to offer.

Having said that, I present to you, RESTAURANTE EL AMICO PANCHO!

Before I continue, I should mention that during my trip, our daily evening outings were typically referred to as a “taco-crawl”. We would walk all the way north until the road ends up in El Sargento and walk all the way back to La Ventana, stopping off at the various restaurants along the way – Restaurante El Amico Pancho stood out amongst some very awesome places.

I was eating tacos at every place along the way, and when I got here, I checked out the menu and saw the last interesting menu item – Hamburguesa Suprema (burger). There were a few of the other people in the restaurant, and we discussed my decision to choose the burger for quite some time before the burger actually arrived.

The burger arrived in all it’s glory – the entire restaurant was speechless. This thing had two patties, bacon, ham, a piece of mozza, a piece of cheddar, guacamole, toasted bun, tomato, lettuce, and some kind of sauce. I didn’t even want to eat it cause it looked so beautiful. The waitress had brought out some ketchup and mustard, but I chose to leave those out and just experience this tasty delight without condiments. Within a minute, six more burgers were promptly ordered among the other people in the restaurant.

On a random site note, when I remember eating the burger, it was to date the best burger I’ve ever had. And to add to it, I always think of a “How I Met Your Mother” episode that was all about the best burger in New York and yes, it was legen…wait for it…dary!

I had also ordered some tacos since technically, this was still a “taco-crawl”. And I have to say, I pretty much tried a taco from every restaurant in the area. And before, I would of argued that Taco Leons WAS without question the best taco there. After having ate the taco at this restaurant, I would argue that Taco Leons would now be the second best.

The meat and tortilla (always harina) were prepared perfectly. One of the main reasons the tacos were great was the condiments. The selection of salsas and other garnishes were many and perfect in their own ways. Overall, awesome tacos!

Keep in mind, the greatness of the tacos may have been somewhat of hallow effect as a result of the burger, but we went there a few times after the burger, and the tacos remained great every time.

So, that was a long write-up about my experience eating a burger and taco, but if you are ever in the area, try it out and let me know what you thought in the comments. On a side note, if you’re ever in Mexico, go to a local area, find a taco stand where there are several locals, and order. Leave your resort-standards at the resort and just experience something maybe a bit out of your comfort level. It will be the best taco you’ll ever have and odds are you don’t get sick. I ate out for every meal at the local restaurants for over 50 days collectively, and I did not have any stomach issues.

The map doesn’t show exactly where the place is, so if you walk/drive down from La Ventana on the main road heading North towards El Sargento, you will see it on the west side of the road opposite the pizza place (surprisingly very good pizza and the owner will sing his heart out for you).

And finally, price point! The food is very cheap. The burger and three tacos (long day of kiting :P) cost 80 pesos, so about $7 and I was very much full after. And of course, the Pacifico Bajana for 17 pesos :) And on top it, you get a free plate of chips and salsa! So good!
